Sperm donation is a procedure in which a man donates semen, the fluid containing sperm that is released during ejaculation, to help an individual or a couple conceive a baby. Donated sperm can be injected into a woman's reproductive organs (intrauterine insemination) or used to fertilize mature eggs in a lab (in vitro fertilization). The use of donated sperm is known as third-party reproduction. A man who makes a sperm donation can be known or anonymous to the recipient. We encourage you to read through the following sections before initiating an application which is expected to take 15 to 20 minutes.  If you would like to learn more or have any questions, please feel free to contact us. Our donor coordinator is standing by to answer your questions and ready to assist you to go through the application process.

Why Sperm Donation

Sperm donation is done to help an individual or a couple conceive a baby. You might choose to make a sperm donation to help those who are unable to conceive — such as a woman who doesn't have a male partner or a couple experiencing male infertility. With sperm donation, you'll likely be paid for each donation that passes the  screening process. Payment is intended to compensate you for your time and any related expenses.

Sperm Donation Cycle

In general, a sperm donation cycle will take 1-2 weeks to complete, excluding matching and screening. Sperm donation is usually combined with IVF (In Vitro Fertilization): Sperm will be retrieved from the donor, and then be injected into a woman's reproductive organs (intrauterine insemination) or used to fertilize mature eggs in a lab and fertilized in the laboratory. Then embryos are transferred to the female recipient or gestational carrier. A typical sperm donation process includes

  • Matching. Our staff will match you with the recipient
  • Screening. The Food and Drug Administration requires basic screening for infectious diseases and certain risk factors before a man can become a sperm donor. Some states and local governments require additional screening. Screening may include education/employment verification, physical exam, semen testing, genetic testing, psychological evaluation, etc.
  • Preparation. You'll likely be asked to abstain from ejaculation, either through sex or masturbation, for at least 2-3 days before sperm retrieval
  • Sperm collection. This is typically done in an authorized medical clinic. You'll provide a semen sample in a sterile cup through masturbation in a private room

Your Benefits

  • All medical cost will be covered and sperm donor shall not be responsible for any out of pocket expenses during screening process or actual cycle
  • Your participation in the sperm donation process will be deemed a wonderful gift to the intended parents. Depending on your background, your compensation is usually in the range of $1,000 to $2,000. Full amount of fund will be remit to you on the end of sperm collection
